Clinton and Obama Talk…Will There Be A Dream Ticket? — by Catherine Morgan (read full post at The Care2 Election Blog)
Should Barack Obama choose Hillary Clinton to be his running mate? I asked this question at The Care2 Election Blog, you can see comments here and here. What do you think? This will be the topic of today’s political blog roundup.
It seems to me that a “dream ticket” is the only way to bring the party together. I also think, if Obama doesn’t choose Hillary as his VP, there is a very good chance McCain could win in November. And McCain (if he’s smart) could end up choosing a woman as his running mate. If he does that, many women would see it as an historic opportunity for them to vote for the first woman VP.
That’s what I think. Here is what other bloggers are saying…
From Faye Anderson at Anderson@Large…
Hillary Clinton gave a defiant non-concession speech, but the final curtain reportedly will fall on the Clinton-Obama drama on Saturday. Barack Obama isn’t waiting for the lights to come up. He has named Caroline Kennedy, former deputy attorney general Eric Holder and Jim Johnson to lead the search for a running mate.
But Clinton backers are saying: We got your veep and she’s “absolutely ready.” The campaign to put Clinton on the ticket is being led by Lanny Davis, who has posted an online petition.
BlogHer contributing editor, Erin Kotecki Vest (also at Queen of Spain), would like to have been a fly on the wall.
There is news tonight Senators Clinton and Obama sat down and had a chat in Washington D.C.
I have burning questions, and I realize not all of them are about policy or substance.
But…
Was there a hug when they entered the room?
Handshake?
I’m guessing no fist-pound.Was it cold and formal?
Was small talk exchanged? I’m envisioning something like:“So, how’s the weather here in DC?”
“Oh, did you see those storms we had?”
“Boy, I sure am tired from all that campaigning.”
“Tell me about it, I haven’t slept in weeks.”I have no doubt when details are released we will get the standard pr push of “In a productive and friendly sit-down, the two Senators were eager to map out the unification of the Democratic party and to continue their hard work for the American people…” or some such BS.
You have to admit, you want to know just how ‘friendly’ it may or may not have gone.
PunditMom has a post at BlogHer asking the same question, Will She or Won’t She?…
The pundits cannot help themselves. We’ve heard every theory from pundits galore during the course of the campaign. And since the sun came up this morning, cable networks and pundits (myself included!) have been parsing every word, every sign, every move of the candidates and their surrogates about what will happen tonight. Can you say “feeding frenzy?”

It is essential that Obama has Hillary to back him up. When he is president, his every move will be criticized and scrutinized by everyone but most harshly by those “without color”. If Hillary were president, everything she said and did would be treated with that same type of zealous prejudice. Regardless of which candidate becomes our next president, the guy is inheriting a mess of such epic proportions that for every American who thinks the guy is doing it right there will be at least one other who thinks he is doing it wrong, not doing enough, or should be starting on something else first. With this waiting for him, Obama needs to choose the strongest person for the job of V.P. who will actually help him with the workload AND add her thick skin to his to deflect all the b.s. that will be flung at him for underlying racial reasons. In addition to all the right reasons, a big one is that if Hillary still wants to be president in the future, it behooves her do an excellent job as Obama’s V.P. As V.P., her job will also be extra difficult for the wrong reasons. Just as during the campaign, everytime she asserts herself or shows self-esteem, she will be ridiculed and slandered for having “attitude” (sense of entitlement, etc). This will not be easy for either of them but I think without eachother to lean on, it will be much harder. Hard to humble herself behind Obama? Don’t be ridiculous! When it comes to humility and grace, this woman has been to the mountain and back!
As a Hillary supporter, I would have liked to see her be president first because I feel she is more experienced and because women have been waiting their turn much longer than people of color. As a Democratic woman of color, it would please me to tears to see Obama & Hillary in the Whitehouse together, in either order. As mothers and loyal Americans, Hillary and I will leave our disappointment at home when we go to vote for Obama in November. All of us who supported Hillary and want what is best for the greatest number of Americans will do the same.
(Having supported her 100%, I appreciate her taking a few days to let us re-check numbers, regroup, and collect ourselves instead of letting herself be hustled into a “premature concession”… after all, what’s the rush?)

Hi Zelda. Thanks for commenting, and I agree with you 100%. I think a “dream ticket” is a sure thing against McCain in November (even if it angers some at first). I do fear that if Obama picks any other VP, it’s not a sure thing in November…and that scares me.

Don’t forget people vote for Obama for the future of the country, not for his personal happiness in the White House. Hillary will provide a great balance for his team. That is what majority of voters want. If Obama does not pick Hillary, it will provide a image of weakness.

It may be our dream, but it might not be Hillary Clinton’s. I think she wants to put herself in a position to run again. That position might be in the US Senate. She also might be able to get more done toward universal health care (which is her baby)as a senator rather than VP.
