There was a point during the debate last night that totally shocked me. I knew Bush was was up to no good over in the middle east. But I wasn’t aware of his intent to tie the hands of the next president, by making long term commitments to the Iraqi government.
The Moderate Voice — As Democratic candidates make promises to voters about troop withdrawal, George W. Bush is in the Middle East trying to tie the hands of his successor in office.

Bush is president another year and three days. Congress doesn’t have the authority to limit his authority to enter into executive agreements.
No executive agreement he makes would literally tie the hands of the next president. Obama, Clinton, McCain, or whoever could change the policy the moment he takes office. In reality, it’s hard to do for a variety of political reasons but that’s too bad.
