Global Warming – What Is The Future Of Earth….a time line.

Posted by Catherine Morgan on April 21, 2007

Our planet’s prospects for environmental stability are bleaker than ever with the approach of this year’s Earth Day, April 22. Global warming is widely accepted as a reality by scientists and even by previously doubtful government and industrial leaders. And according to a recent report by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), there is a 90 percent likelihood that humans are contributing to the change.

The international panel of scientists predicts the global average temperature could increase by 2 to 11 degrees Fahrenheit by 2100 and that sea levels could rise by up to 2 feet.

Scientists have even speculated that a slight increase in Earth’s rotation rate could result, along with other changes. Glaciers, already receding, will disappear. Epic floods will hit some areas while intense drought will strike others. Humans will face widespread water shortages. Famine and disease will increase. Earth’s landscape will transform radically, with a quarter of plants and animals at risk of extinction.

. . . . . . . . . 2008Global oil production peaks sometime between 2008 and 2018, according to a model by one Swedish physicist. Others say this turning point, known as “Hubbert’s Peak,” won’t occur until after 2020. Once Hubbert’s Peak is reached, global oil production will begin an irreversible decline, possibly triggering a global recession, food shortages and conflict between nations over dwindling oil supplies.

. . . . . . . . . see what happens between 2008 and 2050

. . . . . . . . . 2050 – Small alpine glaciers will very likely disappear completely, and large glaciers will shrink by 30 to 70 percent. Austrian scientist Roland Psenner of the University of Innsbruck says this is a conservative estimate, and the small alpine glaciers could be gone as soon as 2037.

. . . . . . . . . see what hapens between 2050 and 2200

The Earth will be perfectly OK regardless what temp. it is at or how much ice there is. All YOU are concerned with is your own personal little habitats. Your worried that you may be personally inconvenienced, this is selfishness at its worst.
Who cares whether it is natural or man made… either way the earth is changing.
Those who live to blame this on man do so cause if they are right, in their tiny frightened minds it means they can fix it…. This is the same arrogance that got us to where we are today.

You decided to play(too much) and now you realized there are reactions to you actions. Just sit back and enjoy yourselves it appears that’s all people are good for anyway.
Know in your hearts that the Earth will be here long after we are gone and life (maybe no humans) will flourish as it always has.

  4. “Tom Gray” — It’s my pleasure to do what ever I can to raise awareness on this important issue.

“Livette” — Thanks for the comment, it’s always nice to hear when someone likes my blog.

“Tyler” — I’m sorry, but I have to respectfully disagree with you. I am not scared of Global Warming…as you can see from the time-line on this post, there is nothing for us to be afraid of in our lifetime. My concern is for my kids, my grand-kids, and their kids….I would like to know in my heart, that I contributed in even a small way to saving the earth for future generations.

Thank you everyone for the comments.

Tyler, it’s hard to understand the point you are making. We made a mess, so the best thing is to not even try to fix it?
Catherine is right. We have responsibilites, not so much to ourselves, but for the generations to come.

The science of climate change is not sufficient to develop such a detailed timeline. We simply do not know enough on the issue. Most of our climate models are extremely basic and none of them can accurately predict the temperature 5 years out (test – load data up until 2001 and then have them predict last years temperature in 25 major cities – they all fail to do this under a 5% error rate). If they can’t predict 5 years out why do we believe them when they are trying for 50? I discuss this and many global warming topics on my site http://www.globalwarming-factorfiction.com. Take a look to learn a balanced discussion on both sides of the issue.

What percentage of global warming is man-made and what percentage is from other causes (It’s some of both I believe) is not what’s important. What’s important is for humanity to stop doing the Earth-aggravating things that are making a bad situation worse. It could mean the difference between whether we survive the change or not. Earth will spin in it’s orbit around the sun for millions of years to come. The question is, will humans live to see any of it?
I believe at best, humanity’s actions are rubbing salt in the wound. At worst, we are the cause of the wound.

  9. I agree with you 100% “D-day” — Thanks for the comment.
