SHOULDN’T WE BE A LITTLE MORE CONCERNED ABOUT THE CHINA SATELLITE BUSTING MISSILE? — by Catherine Morgan
I have compiled several articles, letters, and news reports, on the recent test of China’s Satellite Busting Missile. I have to say, it seems we are not taking this threat as seriously as we should. Everything we do in this country, directly or indirectly, involves one or more satellites…..Including what I am doing right now. What would happen to the infrastructure of this country if our satellites were inactive? Communications? Banking? Emergency Services? Blogging?
It seems that our government has no problem terrifying us as a nation, over terrorism, and implying the only way we can protect ourselves is to kill all the terrorists in Iraq, and now Iran. But, I find a possible attack on our satellite system, a much more serious threat, or at the very least an equal threat. Our military can’t even protect us if our satellites are taken out first. We could go from the most powerful country in the world, to the country brought to it’s knees, without a shot fired. Maybe our government should consider spending some of the hundreds of billions of dollars, that are being spent in Iraq, and use a couple billion to develop technology to protect our satellites. We (primarily or government), have been so focused on developing technology to increase our ability to kill people, that we seem to have overlooked something that could turn our country into the proverbial David & Goliath story.
