My belief is that the number one reason that us “regular” people don’t get involved in politics is; polarization. If you choose a side (ie: democrat or republican), you put yourself out there for a verbal attack from the other side. Even if you just choose to support one idea from one side or the other you become labeled (ie: liberal or conservative). It seems to me that a country built on free speech, has become a country that most of us are afraid to speak. Of course, now with the Internet it is easy to find a forum where a person can discuss the issues of the day with like minded people. But, we need to remember that there is always more than one opinion to every issue, and most likely one is not right and the other wrong, it’s never that simple. Anyway, wouldn’t life be really dull if it was that simple??? Does anyone really think that the goal of either side is to convince 100% of the people that they are right 100% of the time??? Are we really that presumptuous??? I don’t think so.
